What is Bioenergetic
Medicine?
Energetic
medicine is an area of popular concern, inquiry and treatment
which explores a way of viewing the human body, and the person, as an
expression of vibrant energy, in addition to parts which give us our
form. Modern technologies such as magnetic resonance imagery(MRI) and
positron emission tomography seem to validate what many have felt for
generations to be data about the human person which can be sensed by
other methods.
Bioenergetically
Integrated Osteopathic Medicine is recognized as an
extension of Dr. Still’s intent to deal with the totality of the
person, as described both in the biological as well as the
philosophical sense. Zachary Comeaux’s efforts are largely oriented to
reconciling the apparently conflicting paradigms of esoteric healing
and scientifically based contemporary medicine. A significant body of
work in contemporary neurophysiology and quantum biophysics supports
this point of view. Courses given annually at the West Virginia
School of Osteopathic Medicine, and elsewhere internationally by
invitation, support the practical application of this complementary
concept. Courses all include blending information, validation, skills
demonstration and practice.
Bioenergetically
Integrated Osteopathic Medicine includes assessment of
the subtle signature of emotional and spiritual trauma in palpatory
diagnostic process when appropriate. A thorough background in palpating
a wide range of tissue states is helpful. The method is gentle,
non-invasive, and respectful of the patient’s control over their
healing process. Zachary Comeaux’s approach to practicing and teaching
is rooted in the traditional thought of Drs. Still, Rollin Becker,
William Sutherland, and Robert Fulford but continually incorporates
knowledge from contemporary colleagues both within and outside the
osteopathic profession.
The
Bioenergetically integrated osteopathic approach considers that
sometime body tissue retains a bioenergetic imprint of trauma or
strain. In the osteopathic context, emotional trauma may sometimes be
detected with hand contact (palpation) just as a rotated vertebra
resulting from strain. The results of emotional trauma may last long
after the conscious memory of the events is forgotten. If such a
dynamic is the cause of a patient’s symptoms, this often presents a
mysterious challenge to both the patient and the health care
professional.
There
are a variety of energetic medicine approaches. Both
Bioenergetically Integrated Osteopathy and Facilitated
Oscillatory Release provide gentle methods of overcoming the
results of deeper trauma, including the emotional level.
