Instructional
Courses Taught by Zachary Comeaux
Courses:
Facilitated Oscillatory Release (FOR)
Courses: Instructional
courses on topics of technical, research, historical and philosophical
interest
to osteopathic colleagues are designed on request or schools,
conferences, or
study groups. The requirement is only that the audience be
self-designated as
osteopathic to receive instruction in osteopathic technique. Courses on
associated wellness topics are given on
occasion. Past or planned presentations include various venues in
the US, Canada,
United Kingdom,
Germany,
Brazil,
Austria,
Japan, Belgium,
Finland,
France
and Netherlands.
Topics have
included:
1 Facilitated
Oscillatory Release – preferably given as a 2 day course developing
the
application of oscillatory force in manual practice. The course
generally
includes historical background, supporting biophysics and
neurophysiology,
basics skills practice, and examples of application in diverse
circumstances.
2 Teachings of
Robert Fulford DO – Robert Fulford (1905-1997) pioneered the
introduction
of energetic medicine in the osteopathic context. Beginning in the
nineteen
forties, he developed methods of working in the “energy body” to
resolve
chronic complaints which had an energetic, emotional, or spiritual
component.
Dr. Fulford emphasized the idea that “thoughts are things” and
integrated the
use of intention into manual practice. As adjunctive methods he used a mechanical percussion vibrator, Vogel crystals and
magnets.
4 Bioenergetically
Integrated Osteopathic Medicine – This course, given annually at
WVSOM,
expands the concepts introduced by Robert Fulford in a progressive
bioenergetic
context. A rapid increase in popular interest in “energetic medicine”
has
generated a wealth of literature and conversation. This course anchors
these
concepts and research to the osteopathic manual diagnostic and
treatment
process.
5 Functional
Techniques, Integrated Approach- Directed
toward osteopaths with a primary focus on biomechanical methods, this
course
begins with a rationale and historical background for integrating other
techniques, primarily by making anatomic correlations with history and
exam. It
gives a brief introduction to a number of functional techniques
including:
Strain Counterstrain, Connective Tissue/Myofascial Release, Functional
Methods, Facilitated
Oscillatory Release, Facilitated Positional Release. Each is put in
historical
context, with demonstration and practice.
6 Basic Courses in
Osteopathic technique:
As a faculty member of Ohio University College of
Osteoapthic Medicine and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Comeaux
has taught basic osteopathic technique including:
Introduction
to Palpation
Anatomically correlated
problem solving
Stain Counterstrain
Connective
Tissue/Myofascial Release
Functional Methods
Facilitated Oscillatory
Release
Facilitated Positional
Release
Basic cranial technique
High Velocity Low
Amplitude thrust techniques
Articulatory technique
Clinical problem solving:
syndromes and atypical
presentations
Comeaux’s emphasis is on the complementary nature of
various
techniques, not on the supremacy of one particular method for all
patients.
Training in any of these techniques can be provided to qualified groups
of
serious osteopathic students.
